If you watched the recent Dodgers World Series post-game celebration, you may have noticed a familiar face – at least until he put on the snow goggles to join the party. ICP member and OrthoArizona orthopedic surgeon, Brian Shafer, MD, was right there in the thick of the festivities. And why wouldn’t he? He’s been a trusted team physician with the organization for 18 years – longer than anyone else now that Clayton Kershaw has retired. Dr. Shafer joined the Dodgers organization shortly after they moved their Spring Training operations from Vero Beach, Florida to Camelback Ranch in Glendale. He spends a weekend a month in Los Angeles during the season, travels with them as much as possible during the playoffs and serves as head physician for all minor league affiliates. His staff and family know to expect plenty of travel each October – he’s become accustomed to a Dodgers playoff run nearly every year.

Known affectionately as ‘Shafe’ among players and staff, Dr. Shafer’s dedication and expertise has made him an integral part of the team’s core – contributing to their annual success. “It’s a privilege to play a role in such a remarkable journey,” he shares.
While it may be difficult to openly root for our rival neighbors from Los Angeles, ICP is proud to see one of our own recognized on a big stage – and he vouches for the quality and character of people within the organization from top to bottom.
